I am a bad aunt. I have shingles - luckily they don't hurt too much. But guess who's niece was just diagnosed with chicken pox today?


And, over at dailyanimals, the daily animal is a capybara.

She didn't have the vaccine against chicken pox? Here, it's one of the required shots before starting kindergarten. Luckily, yermo had it when he was wee.

I was about 3 months old when I had chicken pox. I do not remember this.

It's required here too, I thought. The docs had trouble diagnosing her because they don't see it often anymore. It was either from me - or a friend of hers who visited Nicaragua and came back with it (or something similar). She already looks and feels better, though itchy.

And - TMI moment - the only way we can figure that she got it from me would be that great urban legend of a disease spreader - the toilet seat :)
I have a small - 3-5 bumps - patch on the front of my upper thigh and a larger patch on my right buttock.

And we're going to the beach next week to spread it around there ::eg::

Isn't chicken pox one of those things that they just have to be exposed to in order to get? Like someone in the same room having it? I thought that was how all the kids always used to get it from other kids.

I know in the stories and movies the parents always used to expose the other kids so they'd all get it at once and get it over with :) Not really sure how it spreads.

And Ember may weigh 6 or so pounds now - she weighed 5 pds when we got her. Bad niece!

It is. She was--either from her aunt (Herpes zoster is Herpes zoster, says T, shingles can cause chicken pox in others) or from her friend.
