That... just... sucks!!!
I remember walking into the Free Library in Philadelphia. It's an awesome building, very historical.
And, yes, it had quite a good scifi/fantasy section. :)
The fact that one of the oldest libraries in the country (truth?) is closing makes me really sad!

I think all libraries should have this quote on everything:
“Libraries will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no libraries”.
Unfortunately, unless Philly gets its' act together, its' inhabitants are about to find out.

That's a great quote.
I really hope the city pulls it through.
And, if it doesn't, I hope it'll find the funds within the next decade.
Actually... isn't the free library a historical monument? Which means, they can't basically shut it down and wait for it to fall down and tear it down?
Right? Right?

No idea about the building, though on the website, under history of the library, it looks like they were planning a new building, due to overcrowding.
