I made a drawstring bag out of one of Mom's shirts.

I can sew! Not in a straight line most of the time, but still...

Which is good because I just bought 3 new pairs of pants that need hemming.

Oh, Mom made excellent veg soup.

Today's nonsense at court stirred up a lot of those old feelings [sigh], plus for my library class, we've been talking about collections and I've been talking about integrating her stuff and my stuff and figuring out what of each to keep and what to get rid of. Hurts less, but still hurts.

I don't think the hurt ever really goes away entirely. I think that it fades a little; it stops being so sharp. But it's there, sort of like smacking your finger with a hammer and then the pain fading.

Mom had cancer, so in some ways it was a relief. My dad had died 13 years earlier, of an unexpected heart attack, so there wasn't any relief there.

But I guess it's the final step of growing up--there's no parental authority any longer.

Oh, and it is a superbly gorgous bag!

Both of my parents were unexpected - though Dad's being in ICU for a month after his accident tempered that. But Mom's was completely out of the blue. As someone else I know said - it's a club that only the people who are in it understand completely how you feel and it's a club no one wants to be in.

And thanks about the bag :) It was admired by my sewing & knitting friends. When the yarn balls get a bit smaller, it'll be an excellent carrier :)
