How's about an update on... ME!? :)

I'm doing very well. My one month followup was supposed to be Jan. 1 - yeah, like the doctor is even open that *week* much less that day ::snorts:: So it's turned into a month and a half follow up - tomorrow. I can tell the difference already - my back doesn't hurt as much and I have more stamina. I've got to get my lazy butt exercising though ::sigh:: Not sure about actual weight loss - I'm not checking - I'll let the doctor do that. So I guess I will know tomorrow :)

I've signed up for some things to get me out of the house - I'm taking a library class that starts today. And I've signed up for a 4 week beginning sewing class. And a one day women's handgun class (I've got a gun, figure I should learn how to use it - for my safety, not to mention protection). Still seeing my therapist and I really need to get back into cataloging the church library - I've really let that slide.

Annoying cousin is still around, though a bit less annoying now that she's got a place to live. She's actually called me a couple of times just to talk and to see how I am - kinda freaked me out the first time - I kept waiting on her to ask for money or something :)

I did finally get my settlement from Social Security right before Christmas - which was *very* nice :)

Hmmm... this all sounds too good. ... I did have a flat tire a couple of weeks ago and had to get a new one - which really sucked since the tire itself was a recent replacement, but the piece of metal didn't care. I didn't get a good ol' boy coming to my rescue, but that didn't matter since AAA did :)

*********

Fed Exus Interruptus:

Okay, now that's weird - I have to find alternate ways of getting enough protein since I don't get it through food yet. So I ordered some liquid protein - it comes in these oversize plastic test tubes. I just got a back-ordered package of a sampler pack. The seal is like on a soda bottle - twist and it breaks away. Well the outside packaging was fine; the inside plastic bag was broken - looks like the bottom seal may not have been secure; and 1 test tube (out of 4) has a broken seal. Methinks I'll call the company.

Oh, huzzah! I was just thinking about you and trying to decide if poking you would be a good idea.

Glad to hear that you're feeling better already. No obvious side effects from the surgery?

::poke::

Nope - well, except for the need to eat semi-cautiously :) Too fast or too much generally results in retaliation by the stomach, using one end or the other - ewww. So I do tend to go for soup if I really want to eat out. Soup is safe :)

Partly though, I seem to be a good healer - the docs were all very happy with me after my hysterectomy too. But I used very little of the pain meds they gave me for home - hee, I just went and counted them - I have 37 out of 40 pills left :)

The first couple of weeks were the weirdest - I felt very uncomfortable in my body - but I figure it was everything shifting to fill up that empty space, but now it feels normal.

The best thing has been being off almost all my diabetes medications. Instead of 2 oral meds, and 2 different insulins (one with meals and one in the evening), now I test my glucose levels every six hours or so and use a sliding scale to figure out how much to take - and it's usually 2-5 units, rather than the 60 units/meal.

It's still not something I'd easily recommend to anyone - it's a tough decision, needing lots of research and self-search, but I'm more inclined to believe I made the right decision :)

And if you're ever in SC and need a hospital, I can definitely recommend Lexington Medical Center - excellent staff :)
