So....

28 years ago a really nice guy asked me to marry him. I think I'd
had a crush on him since the first time I saw him, I was about 15 at
that time. I can honestly saw, to this day, I've never seen a man
built like he was, he was really something to have a crush on.

I said yes.

He went back out fishing, 3 weeks later he came back and I was no where to be found. I'd gotten cold feet, packed up everything and left. I told everyone not to tell him where I was.

Over the years I'd see him occasionally when I visited the island, but he never saw me. I kept a pretty low profile and he never even knew I'd been there. This past trip in August was the first time in the last 6 years or so that I'd told myself that I wasn't going to give him a second thought.

I suffered a gallbladder attack, severe enough that I had to go to the hospital. Dianosis: cranky gallbladder. They made a point of telling me that I couldn't eat crab, lobster, scallops or anything fried. I'm not big on fried, so no loss there, but I love crab rolls. This was also the first trip where we didn't take the dogs with us. My son talked me out of it, he said I never got to go to a sit down restaurant and relax or just enjoy hiking or shopping. All this in mind, we decided to have dinner at a restaurant that we'd never gone to. The place is very popular and they served food other than just seafood. Naturally, the place was packed and the owner asked if we'd like to sit on the patio. No problem. We had a great table overlooking the yard and the water, the only problem being that I was the main course for the local mosquitoes as the night progressed. We'd just finished dinner when the man I'd turned down so many years ago passed our table. This was the closest encounter I'd had so far and I told my son we had to go. After waiting a few minutes, I figured it was safe to hit the restroom before we left and it was, but when I came out of the restroom, there he was, 2 feet in front of me. Before I could stop myself, I reached out and touched his arm. When he looked at me I knew right away that he didn't have a clue who I was, but when I told him, he hugged me tight and looked me over again. My hair was a different color and I was heavier and of course, not a young grl any longer. He came out to meet my son and one of the first things he said to him - "I could have been your father!" My son looked at me, eyebrow raised and a tad perplexed. He later told me that "It would have been an improvement on my real father, but then I would have had that damned accent!" *G*

It was our last night on the island. As I said good bye, he pulled me close and asked me what would happen if he tried harder this time. I told him he'd have to find out....

Two nights ago, he asked me to marry him. I said yes :)

Oh, yeah - she had to have her gallbladder taken out just this past week too.
