Pet food

I'm going to end up learning how to make my own out of self defense, man.

One of the latest recalls hit too close to home.

Although we have no confirmed cases of illness in pets, we have decided to voluntarily remove the following dry pet food products that contain rice protein concentrate due to the presence of a melamine derivative.

ROYAL CANIN SENSIBLE CHOICE® (available in pet specialty stores nationwide)

- Chicken Meal & Rice Formula Senior DRY DOG FOOD(snipped list)

I buy my lab Rosie the Chicken Meal & Rice Adult - which wasn't in the recall. But the main reason I've never gotten her the Senior is that my Petco doesn't seem to stock it. Rosie is 11; she turns 12 in July/August.

So her bag of Adult was next to empty, and the cat food bag is starting to get low, so had to go buy pet food earlier today and was talking to one of the Petco guys at the checkout. His thought was that, basically, they should just toss everything and start over. I'm not really against this idea, though how to do it is beyond me.

I decided to skip the RC purchase this time. And the Nutro I buy for my precious furry kitty girls wasn't recalled, but I decided to skip it too, just because some of their stuff had been recalled. Checkout guy was talking about the Dick Van Patten brand that's organic, but didn't think my Purina Pro Plan Selects were a bad choice - he also gave me a free bag of kitty treats :)

And, since this is a pet post, here are pictures! )

[livejournal.com profile] therienne is doing an excellent job of journaling - journalling? - all things pet food recall related.

Comment and I will give you 3 interests from your list and 3 icons for you to explain.

[livejournal.com profile] taibhrigh gave me:

1. rabbits: I love animals - expecially cats & dogs - followed closely by cute widdle floofy bunnikins! Gah! Insulin shock! And I live sorta in the country and, sometimes, if I'm coming home at night, when I pull into the yard, I can see a rabbit or two hopping across my lawn. There was a black&white long-eared one last night!

2. reading: I don't remember ever not reading. Mom said she read to us as kids, but I don't remember that. I just remember reading. In elementary school, when I was hooked on Nancy Drew, I'd take 2 or 3 to school to read there. I just read faster than anyone else and I'd get through assignments quicker, so I'd check my work and then pull out a book. The teachers never bothered me - and I'd usually read all 3 books too :)

3. movies: What's not to love? Climate-controlled, popcorn- & soda-infused escapism at its finest. Drama, action, adventure, science fiction, fantasy - much pickier about comedies and chick flicks and, oddly, not really big on horror movies.

Hmmm, actually reading and movies were greatly influence by Mom - Dad too - but more Mom. We read lots of the same books (I usually recommended them to her) and saw lots of the same movies (probably equal amounts, but my genre choices were wider). We'd go out to eat and both pull out books instead of talking; and we'd go to the movies, getting there early to make sure we had time to get popcorn, and pull out books until the previews started :)

: Ithy made it - I like it as a celebration/congratulations type icon - also the drink looks good :)

: I made it - I wanted a wintery icon and I love snowflakes - one of the links on my page goes to a site where you can cut out snowflakes. I've also cross stitched one - haven't gotten it framed yet though.

: inspired by [livejournal.com profile] diavestra's similar icon - I like the South Park look and it had a book!

I need more icons... though must resist urge to make them all cats ;>
