Arctic Drift by Clive Cussler and Dirk Cussler - A corrupt Canadian is subverting government officials and confounding efforts to solve the energy problems of the US and Canada, using his influence and lies to bring the two countries to the brink of war. Meanwhile Dirk and Al are in the Northwest Passage, hunting a missing ship that may have, on board, a mineral that could help scientists solve the energy problem. The question is - will the corrupt man's minions kill them or will the cold? Totally unbelievable, and not as good as they used to be, but I still find them fun.

Stalking Susan by Julie Kramer - TV reporter Riley Spartz is recovering from her own tragedy and starting to come back to work, when a source (a retiring police detective) drops a killer story in her lap - 2 dead Susans, killed on the same day in 2 consecutive years. Riley discovers other Susans too, but her news director is more interested in happy stories - and her source might just be a suspect. I liked Riley and her issues with the studio and the police, but the main story was kind of slow. I'd check out a sequel though. Oh! There's one coming out this year :)

Takeover by Lisa Black - Theresa's detective boyfriend hands the dead body off to her and heads to Cleveland's Federal Reserve Bank to question the dead man's coworkers. She's a forensic scientist and usually out of the loop on active police activity, but then she finds out her fiancee walked into a robbery/hostage situation. When he's injured, she breaks protocol and substitutes herself for him. She tries to become an inside agent for the negotiator, trying to figure out the murder and the robbery before she becomes a victim. Enjoyed it, though I really think she'd have been kept out of everything - I know the author had reasons and I liked the story, I just found it very implausible.

First to Kill by Andrew Peterson - Former CIA sniper Nathan McBride and his partner, now independent security agents, are called in to help investigate the disappearance of an undercover FBI agent, whose grandfather is a former FBI director. They stumble onto a pair of homegrown arms dealers/terrorists - and during a raid, McBride kills their younger brother. The retaliation is the bombing of an FBI office in California. McBride's investigation keeps veering from the terrorist angle to a more personal angle - and end up in a battle to the death. Lots of action, military-esque thriller. Damn good debut.
