So. There is this thing going around wherein you comment on this post and I give you five things that I associate with you and then you take them and elaborate in your own LJ, right?

[livejournal.com profile] elismor (from whom I stole the above description) gave me

1. evil (because i know you and you are not, really)
2. the south
3. books
4. otters (though this is newish)
5. cats

1. evil: I'm evil in a good way! :) Mostly, it's because I'm sarcastic and have a dirty mind. Online/email conversations would happen and I'd pop up with something warped or filthy, and people would say "Oh, that's so bad! You're so evil!" And because in Forever Knight fandom, I was a fan of LaCroix, the snarky master vampire. I liked the description, so I adopted it :) And then [livejournal.com profile] besyd starting using the nice version, since we share the same name and the rest just flowed from there.

2. The south: Sometimes the South is very hard for me. I'm a liberal Democrat in a conservative Republican world (plus the rednecks, who aren't all bad) - my state is known for its conservatism (and, often, its stupidity). But it's also known for its beauty and the kindness of its people. And the food :) I've never lived anywhere else and can't really imagine it. I... dunno - towns are towns - more alike than different, I think, and while I'm not sure I'll live here in this house for the rest of my life, I'm not sure I could go too far. My heart is here.

3. You know, when I was reading [livejournal.com profile] diavestra's answers, I had to laugh - she and I should be the best friends, you know - I adore the ocean too, but a good creek or stream can also ease my pain. And then there are the books. God I love books. I like mysteries, thrillers, science fiction, fantasy, horror, teen novels, children's books, romance... I'm not a big literary fiction reader and I have to deliberately remember to hunt out nonfiction. I am a voracious reader and a natural speed reader, which always drives people crazy for some reason, but I have excellent reading comprehension skills. I always scored very well on those standardized tests on the verbal section - and always finished way before everyone else :) I always have a book with me in my bag (and if I don't, I always end up regretting it). Mom always did too - she loved reading - she didn't read nearly the variety I did or nearly as fast, but she always had books around. We'd go out to dinner and both read :) - hey, we lived in the same house, anything we needed to talk about could be done later :) I love the escape and the freedom you find in books.

4. Otters: they're freaking adorable! And when I came to LJland, I decided to change over from eviltammy for some reason. A small group of us also had an inside joke about the actor who played LaCroix - he was at a con somewhere and was scruffy (I wasn't at this con) and kept scratching his beard. Someone remarked he looked like an otter rubbing the fur on it's face, so we got otter pins :) I'm still a fan of the actor, but I love the animal. www.cuteotters.com

5. Cats: are even better than otters because I can have them as pets :) I've always loved animals, and as far back as I can remember, we've always had pets, usually both cats and dogs, even though Dad wasn't a big cat person. When I moved from home in '92, it was the first time I hadn't had a pet around, so I always loved visiting home or friends who had pets. I always seemed to find places to live that wouldn't allow them. When I moved back home in '04, I had waaaaaay too much time on my hands and spent most of it on the net looking at cat pictures (it's the real reason for the internet, you know). Mom got tired of me calling her into the other room to look at kitten pictures and decided to get me a cat for my birthday in '05. But there weren't any kittens! But at the Humane Society, she saw this gorgeous year old tortie... And I got Ember. We got Honey later that year as a kitten from the niece's mother's cat. And after Mom died, the cats were what kept me going. Ember turned from a fairly normally aloof cat into a needy lovebug, which was what I needed :) She hasn't changed back and I'm glad. They make me happy. Except for the fur everywhere. And the occasional barfing. They're my sweet, vicious li'l killers and I love them ::beams::
